Prevalencia de maloclusiones en niños y adolescentes de un instituto pediátrico de referencia en Perú

Resumen

Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de maloclusiones en pacientes de 8 a 17 años atendidos en el Servicio de Ortodoncia y Ortopedia Maxilar del Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño (INSN) durante el periodo 2019-2021. Materiales y métodos: Estudio transversal y descriptivo, cuyos datos fueron recolectados de 283 historias clínicas de pacientes pediátricos que acudieron al servicio de odontología del INSN. Se usó una ficha de recolección de datos, según las variables sociodemográficas y de tipo de maloclusión durante la ejecución y se aplicaron pruebas bivariadas para el análisis exploratorio. Resultados: El 51,9 % de los pacientes fue de sexo masculino y la mediana de la edad fue de 11 (9-13) años. La prevalencia con maloclusión de clase I de Angle fue del 31,5 %, de clase II-1 del 25 % y de clase II-2 del 10,6 %; la clase III se presentó en un 32,9 %. Los pacientes de sexo femenino mostraron una mayor frecuencia de maloclusiones de clase II (41,2 %) y los del sexo masculino una mayor prevalencia de maloclusiones clase de III (32,9 %). Solo se halló una asociación con la edad del paciente y el tipo de maloclusión (p = 0,046). Conclusiones: Las maloclusiones más frecuentes en niños y adolescentes fueron las de clase III y clase I.
